Mr. Atul Saxena- Founder & CEO, Growdiesel Mission
Mr.Saxena is a technologist and turnkey project specialist with over 20 years of experience of executing large agro based projects. He launched Growdiesel on Jyly 2nd , 2001 with a belief that it is possible to transform the future. To take steps and make differences to the lives of millions of people. That is why he had decided to build such businesses that have deep impact on society and mother earth.
Growdiesel is a renewable energy exploration and production organization dedicated to the cause of environment, energy & empowerment of masses. The main objective of Growdiesel is to establish a value chain for production of sustainable biofuels from non-food feedstocks like Jatropha, algae and biomass. Growdiesel has successfully discovered high yielding Jatropha variants that grow very fast & produce first crop within one year of planting. Growdiesel has also developed a proprietory catalyst free technology for production of Biodiesel from high ffa multiple feedstocks.
Mr.Saxena is engaged in initiation of multiple projects for development of next generation carbon negative Biofuels. Mr.Saxena is working on a host of technologies to create Growdiesel BioCrude™ , a renewable liqui fuel, similar to fossil crude oil. Growdiesel BioCrude™ can replace fossil/petroleum crude oil in existing refineries (without any modifications) to produce carbon-neutral transportation fuels such as petrol, jet fuel and diesel.
The main achievements of Mr.Saxena include a detailed techno-economic feasibility study cum DPR for India Railways to cultivate 4000 Hectares of its spare land with Jatropha, convert Jatropha oil to biodiesel & use the biodiesel to run rail engines (estimated cost of project over 2 Billion US$). His recent developments include a low cost enclosed Photobioreactor system to produce Algae for Biofuels. Mr.Saxena is currently working on a project "To convert Sunlight, non-potable water, all kinds of wastes and CO2 to Sustainable carbon negative Growdiesel BioCrude™ that can be converted to high quality liquid biofuels as Hi-cetane Green Diesel and Aviation turbine fuel". The project has been designed for rapid adoption by farmers and entrepreneurs under the aegis of Growdiesel Mission 2020. Growdiesel Mission 2020 is primarily focussed to develop and deploy economic models with "triple bottom lines", i.e. each Growdiesel project must have strong inbuilt economic, social and environmental benefits.

Fossil fuels take millions of years to make. We are using up the fuels that were made more than 300 million years ago before the time of the dinosaurs. Once they are gone they are gone. Also the key Greenhouse Gases (GHG) causing global warming is carbon dioxide. There is a large interest of the private companies to venture into biodiesel industry. Jatropha is an energy species that has to be domesticated as a tree crop. In order to have commercial perfection, it is crucial to understand the habit of the crop and its requirements, predict possible interactions with the environment and develop packages of practices for industrial cultivation.

The major benefits of energy plantation are listed as follows:
- Energy independence for your organization: Crude oil prices have been highly volatile in the past. Though the prices have cooled down since the peak of 147 US$ per barrel however the prices may again bounce back within 2-3 years (or earlier). Developing own source of oil and insulating oneself from such price volatility can be a dream project for all most all the diesel users. Large scale development of Growdiesel Energy Farms on waste/unused land can result in large scale production of Biofuels- a suitable substitute for imported crude oil.
- Plant once & get fuel forever: Jatropha Curcas is a shrub that needs to be planted only once. There after it continues to give oil for next 50 years. Owning Growdiesel Energy Farms is like owning your own oil wells.
- Use waste land: Jatropha Curcas can be grown on any type of soil including wasteland. The plant requires little water. The whole plantation can be rain fed. This is an excellent plant for India to use vast tract of over 130 million hectare wasteland. Jatropha plantation can sustain over long periods of draught.
- Convert boundary walls to oil wells: Jatropha Curcas can be planted along the boundary walls. Large townships, factories and other such areas can now be protected with Jatropha as hedge instead of expensive fencing. - Sequester atmospheric carbon and earn carbon credits: 12000 plants of Jatropha Curcas can sequester/save of over 10 Tons of CO2 per year. Hence it is an excellent plant to combat the rising menace of global warming. Jatropha plantation and biodiesel usage can be an excellent CDM project.
- High survival rate: Jatropha Curcas variants supplied by Growdiesel are strong, drought resistant plants suitable for extreme climatic conditions.
- Guaranteed Payback of investment: since the Jatropha oil shall be used for manufacture of Biodiesel, the investment towards creation of Growdiesel Energy Farms is paid back within 4-5 years and thereafter it continues to generate profits for rest of its life.
- Appreciation of Land: Growdiesel Energy Plantation is best suited for investment in lands. Normally the lands near cities are converted to commercial and residential purposes over a span of a decade or more. Such lands can be ideally sown with Jatropha plantation to get a regular annual income till the land is ready for use.
